Hey Max, glad you thought it out. Welcome to HF! The tags are always messed up. I'm supposed to have LH tag, but on one particular character, I get the tag, and then it changes back to corsairs no matter what i do. It sucks.
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.

You just have to keep killing whoever you get tagged as until it goes right, one of my chars went thru well over 15 tags before it changed from xeno to lane hacker.
Us old timers do take the time to explain how the RP works, however if people ignore or just shoot you without saying anything, it's abit hard to get them to understand.
As for the 'leave me alone' that only works when the player your asking isn't a complete and utter *******, unfortunately there are a few on the server who are.
Then again, the question becomes... if you don't want to RP at all... Why the hell are you playing on an RP server?
I'm new and I hope I don't offend any of the old-timers here, but I'd like to give you my opinion.
I think a password is the answer.
After reading the latest posts on the subject of new players not RPing, breaking server rules and generally being disrespectful, it occurs to me that a password is a fairly straightforward way to weed out the worst of them. I can't imagine that the sorts of people who are too impatient to read the rules, play their role or earn money without shortcuts way will be patient enough to read a nice, long readme that contains the link to the forum. Simply require all players to register in the forums to access the password, then hide a subforum from the public so only logged in users can see it. It's easy to implement and will probably solve most of these issues before they ever start - nip them in the bud, so to speak. I can't think of any other way to screen out a large portion undesirables with as little effort.
I just love simple, efficient solutions, don't you?;)
1) Admins would have to register every single person that wanted to play, and people leave the server and come back a lot. Lots of work
2)Friends would tell their friends the password. A lot of ppl know each other in real life, or would do such a thing.
3)We'd have to periodically change the password so that it couldn't be found out. Lots of work.
Good idea though.

The password option has been discussed a while ago, it wasn't done because A) whats to stop people giving it to their friends, B) if we stick it in a post somewhere, how do we know that they actually read it?
A possible solution to A) would be giving unlimited characters (or just more then 5) per player account and then giving each player account it's own seperate password.
Problems: I've got no idea if it can be done and if it can it'll mean loads more work for the admins, who have enough to deal with now.
As for B), we'd have to have a quiz on the rules or something, but then again once one player knows the password it won't take long for it to become common knowledge.
The other, seemingly, popular route is to do a witchhunt of players/factions/groups who regularly break the rules, annoy people, lie, cheat, fail to RP etc.
It doesn't work, it just lowers yourself to their level, but that hasn't stopped the AW, Bs|, HF and a few others doing it twice now.
FL limits the max number of chars to 5, that's not changeable without modding the game-engine itself,
and this would only be possible if the sourcecode was released by MS (as far as I know).
The password thing isn't the perfect solution, but it's better than nothing at all and would keep off at least
some ****.
Another method would be the integration of an age-verification system combined with the password
protection, but if this was done I'm sure 75% of the players couldn't get on the server anymore because
they're far below 18:)
The age difference of the players is also a point that leads to some conflicts, cause an "oldie" like me
just thinks different than a "youngster" does about certain thinks, not to talk about the social
background that also affects peoples oppinion.
So whenever I get in a "conflict" I try to talk it out, but many other "oldies" just feel pissed to easily
and mention that they don't get the respect they think they should be treated with:)
Well I say, basic respect is something that everyone deserves, nomatter of his/her age, further respect
has to be earned, and this can't be done by just knocking on ones age like some players do.
In general, it's up to the community to take care that the rules are followed.
But back to subject, this is getting to scientific:D
My idea (the tag-thing) is just simple and it's been proofed many times that it works.
But it was just a suggestion, cause I still believe many probs occure cause players
just don't understand how RP works on this server or just aren't interested in RP.
Or make it just very, very simple, no matter who is tagged what.
Shoot everything red
Leave anything white alone
Assist anything green
That's the way how some ppl play, but that's also a matter for many "missunderstandings".
While i appreciate the attempt to stabilize the server rules to garner to the seemingly increasing number of n00bs on the server, I honestly don't think the new rules will work.
Password protecting the server is the LAST thing I will do. cause passwording the server will be even easier to hack. Why? If one person knows the password, how do I know they won't give it to their friends.. and those friends pass it on to their friends? Kinda defeats the purpose, no ?
What I'm looking at are *REAL* solutions to the hacking/cheating issue. I'm gonna talk to Igiss and Korrd about implementing some new features, so it's wait-and-see.

Now that I can't wait to see go in to play. Hope it works.
I don't think so Marauder, the password is set on the server (the program running it - flserver.exe or whatever the name is, I'm not sure) and is for general access.
On the other hand, I wouldn't even think of such a solution, it's really too much administration, after all...
