10 million profits isn't 1/3 of a Miner's profits, and the pirate can't really know if the miner has the credits or not. I don't see how the demand was unreasonable.

I want to get off Mr. Igiss' wild ride.

What I don't get is this...
Your a pirate... Drop a trader out the lane...
Trader claims he doesn't have the money... You have no way to tell if this is true or not...
Make the right choice, let him go or something... Maybe get him to drop the cargo. Or the wrong choice, blow him up... And get sanctioned...
It's sort of an impossible decision as you have no idea if the trader is lying.

If you make a reasonable demand (cargo, credits) and the trader doesn't comply, you could blow him up without getting sanctioned...

I did say 'Most People' seem to understand ...

Once you try to break down into figures, who is earning what, or think you know who is earning what, you are
on the slippery slope towards the 'unreasonable' ... Most pirates lack finesse and and a maths degree.
Reasonable demands not met, can be enforced with little worry of any form of repercussion ...
See where we are going here ?

Pirates: If the trader or miner claims not to have the money on them. Take cargo.
Traders/Miners: If you don't have the cash, give up the cargo or offer to pay him if he escorts you to the sell point. Then pay him.

Why do some pirates feel that they have to demand credits?

O noes he won't give me credits but he haz a load of high value cargo...........nope that def isn't worth it. dai trader!

^ That is the vibe I get from some pirates. Instead of being a PvP whore, try RP'n it more if they can't pay you the credits.

I speak from more than just a trader's view. I have a merc who can't find any damn work because most traders don't want to pay for an escort..........then I see people cry that there are no escorts.

As I say every time this subject comes up, keep your demands reasonable. I've never pirated for more than 2 mil, and it's usually lower. Give the trader a chance to profit, and he may be more willing to RP with you.

On my Buccaneer, I don't often get people who go silent and run. Why? I state up front that it'll go easier if you cooperate, then I stick to my word.

Thats because one escort is'nt enough.
Also pirates just ignore the escort, and destroy the transport before the escort gets a chance to destroy them.

I know, I've seen it happen while escorting traders on with my bounty hunter
character many many times.

I've gone around without any money in my account, and only the cargo in my hold as the only money I have.

Similar situation happened on DiscoUSA to me when I was just starting out. I had Mafic, unarmored and very little weapons, hold full of niobium (not ore), heading through NY. Got met by a couple of *******, who demanded 10m credits. I kindly explained to them I had not the cash, but offered my cargo in exchange for my life.

SNAC, BattleRazor, and I was free-floating molecules. Unreasonable demand to get a blue message. It happens here too, especially when the pirate starts taking into account levels, sell-prices, and other information that the character doesn't necessarily have.

The mining mod has made crazy demands like 10m, 20m, and higher acceptable, even if I'm flying an Adv. Train full of Consumer goods or Boron, I'm being pirated for 10m credits because 'you've got the credits'.

How is that fairplay?

Even on my miner, without escorts, I will offer ore over credits. To any ship pirating me. If said pirate's in a bomber or gunboat, I'll offer to fill their hold and be on my way. If it's a Transport, it depends on whether I'll let my turrets do the talking or if I'll offer up some ore in exchange.

This leads to interesting dilemmas for the pirates of smaller ships, and a fun sort of psychological experiment for me. A typical bomber has maybe 75 cargo available for cargo-piracy. Say I'm hauling Gold Ore, 14k+ * 75 is just over 1m credits. A gunboat (sans cap8) can have roughly the same amount, if not more. Does the pirate take the 1m and run with it? Or not?

If said pirate's asking 10m, that's a little overwhelming for someone not in a Transport, as the most they can expect out the deal is credits being transferred or beaming in 75 units of ore after SNAC-ing the transport. Most that I've run into are after the blue message, and only one person has the fun.

It's a refreshing pleasure to meet a pirate like Boss, who asks reasonable amounts. They usually get paid more than they ask.

So instead of investing in some protection, they'd rather have none. Rather ignorant if you ask me. Not to mention the fact that there is usually other freelance mercs, BHs, and MM about that could be hired too but hey, that is too much cash leaving your pocket right?

Excuse me.
I am a Trader but also have some Pirate chars.

This is a RP server.

If a Pirate ask a trader to pay 10mill or die i think the Pirate is OoRP As ther are hardly any routes left that gives a profit like that. So by asking even a 5000 unit trader this is just a excuse to pvp the trader.

A miner is another thing, but Scan the miner and what it is in said miners hold compare it to his LvL and do the math.

Remember its a Game we are all here to have fun.
A pirate do pirate first off to to keep his ship flying and get Rum. And secundly to get rich.
But a smart Pirate dont tax to high, as he will know that he will risk a bounty on him.

I never hit any trader with more than 2 mill, mostly its even lesser, Depends on the traders RP.

I am not a native English Speaker, so i make grammar errors.
But it annoys me when people make silly comments about that... especially brits who for the most part can't speak their own language let alone anyone elses!
