Lagos was hastily constructed by the Corsairs in late 817 as it became clear that the GMG would not tolerate the Junkers at Yanagi indefinitely. Built in close proximity to pockets of volatile gases, an area the GMG patrols knew to avoid, the station became operational in 818 AS, at which point Corsair activity in the southern half of Sigma-13 increased dramatically. Lagos also plays an important role in maintaining an artifact smuggling route to the Unioners in the Munich system.

[835 AS] Bloody Skirmish in Omega-47

OMEGA-47 -- 835 -- Numerous pilots have reported a significant skirmish in Omega-47 last week. The clash took place north of the system's central star, between the Corsairs and a combined Hessian-Coalition force. The confrontation inflicted heavy losses on all sides, leaving no faction satisfied with the outcome. This marks yet another bloody chapter in the relentless struggle for dominance in the Omegas between the Corsairs and the Red Alliance. Both sides hope controlling Omega-47 will open the flanks of Omega-5, securing a final decisive victory.

[835 AS] Core routed from Corsair borders

CIUTADELLA -- Corsair scouts sounded the alarm after a large force of Core ships amassed near Planet Gammu. Ciutadella’s garrison moved to block any attack on Omicron Gamma, however the Core were soon beset by a huge force of AI ships. Seeing a chance to dislodge the Core blight, the Battlecruiser Vis led an attack on their flank. While the Vis suffered heavy damage fighting a Core battlecruiser, the enemy fleet was routed and chased into Omicron Delta. The AI Drones exhibited hostility to our pilots until a withdrawal was ordered. The Elders have been appraised of these resurgent AI, and the abnormal Core battleship leading them.

[835 AS] North Rheinland campaign crumbles

PENITENCE -- 835 -- The Battlecruiser Penitence has abandoned its position and fled from Dresden. Facing Red Hessian encirclement, Admiral Escamilla ordered a break-out to Frankfurt. After the battlecruiser took severe damage, Petra Outpost’s garrison was scrambled to provide emergency assistance. Regrettably, this provided a window of opportunity for the Bundschuh and GMG to strike in Sigma-15, destroying the station. While the Penitence was able to escape, the disastrous Dresden campaign has cost the Empire dearly, severely damaging our raiding infrastructure in southern Rhienland. Admiral Escamilla has been summoned to Crete to answer for this failure.

[834 AS] GMG destroys Sigma smuggling ring

NAHA -- 834 -- GMG spokesmen have announced the successful conclusion of a security operation in Sigma-13. The Guild paramilitary confirmed that diligent patrols had uncovered evidence of a large smuggling operation being conducted from an abandoned Kruger gas miner, fuelling Corsair and Outcast raids across the region. “Thankfully our pilots acted decisively, putting an end to this menace and expelling the itinerants from the GMG’s territory.” Interspace risk adjusters reacted favorably to the news, lowering premiums for the dangerous border world by half a percentage point.

[833 AS] Outcasts retreat, sealing Corsair victory

FREEPORT 9 -- 833 -- Facing superior Corsair forces, the Outcasts have fled from battle in Omicron Theta, abandoning their Zoner lapdogs. Valiant Corsair fighters cut down their pitiful enemies, putting these upstart Zoners in their place. Despite this, victory has come at the cost of many precious Corsair ships, and ambushes on our freighters continue in the system's nebulae. The Elders recognize that the Zoners are feeble minded and were manipulated by the treacherous Outcasts -- Crete has generously offered peace terms to local Zoner leaders so that they may accept Corsair rule and ensure their survival.

[833 AS] Elders dismiss general over failure

CRETE -- 833 -- Outraged at the destruction of the Battlecruiser Kefalonia and damage to Freeport 9, the Elders have summoned General Galvez to answer for his failure to anticipate the scale of the attack. The Home Fleet is now being reorganized under new command, with the Battleship Delos providing immediate cover while the Battlecruiser Vis and squadrons from Rheinland are urgently pulled back from their present campaigns. Elder Garcia commended the Freeport’s defenders for their tenacity, congratulating them on throwing back the Outcast invaders. “We held our ground, at a cost,” she noted. “The Outcast feel they have struck a blow, but the wreckage shows they’ve paid a severe cost in blood they cannot well replace. When they return, we shall be ready.”

[832 AS] A different kind of Houston heat

MARLTON CITY -- 832 AS -- A huge firefight has been reported in one of Houston's urban centers, involving a gang of heavily armed assailants and dozens of casualties. The target appears to have been a major LPI penitentiary facility, with one force spokesperson going so far as to say that the raid must have been carried out by a professional mercenary outfit. Malton City has gone into lockdown amid rumors of a mass breakout by Pennsylvania convicts. An enormous manhunt has been launched, involving Marine support from the Battleship Arkansas.

[832 AS] Breaking the Stalemate

PETRA -- 832 AS -- Grinding stalemates against the Hessians in Omega-5 and Omega-47 have gone on for decades, with tens of thousands having met their end in these systems. High Elder Montoya once pioneered the Road to Rheinland strategy to break this impasse. He envisioned an assault through the Sigmas into Rheinland, crippling the Hessian back lines in Dresden. While the High Elder has since passed, today we have the power to once again put his bold plan into action. Our scouts aboard the Battlecruiser Penitence report that the Rheinland Military and Hessians have severely bloodied one another in a massive clashes within Dresden. Both are weakened and preoccupied; all we must do is administer the fatal blow. The Elders have directed our forces to assemble at Petra and prepare to break through Frankfurt into Dresden. Be wary of the Bundschuh, who have harassed our raiders and resupply freighters in the area. They will likely try to stop us, and are to be shot on sight.

[832 AS] Counting doses

ROCHESTER -- 832 AS -- The catastrophic crash of the Cardamine market has been tough for all the associates involved in the chain of its distribution, and the substantial drop-off in the quantity of it available for use and resale has caused a new problem in this series of bad episodes. The Rogues and Hackers, former partners in feeding the needs of the underworld are now at each other's throats, unable to meet demands for the drug both by their own and by customers, it seems as if stealing it from each other at gunpoint is the new business model.

[832 AS] Core invade Omicron Kappa

CIUTADELLA - 832 - The Core Battleship Mars has charged into Omicron Kappa and launched a massive attack on the Drones of Planet Gammu. Ciutadella's garrison does not have the strength to repel this aggression -- commanders have implored Crete to send reinforcements. The Elders have instructed Kappa's guardians to observe, and hinder any Core movements towards the homeworld. The Empire's fleets are preoccupied in Omicron Theta, Dresden, and the Omegas, particularly with the renewed conflict surrounding Freeport 9. The Battleship Delos will coordinate additional patrols in the Amarus Cloud to interfere with the Core's plans.

[832 AS] The Outcast Menace Returns

DELOS -- 832 AS -- In a bitter day for the Corsair Empire, the Outcasts have returned to Omicron Theta. The crew of the Battleship Fes gave their lives to raise the alarm, allowing the Corsair defenders of Freeport 9 to assemble and repulse the assault.

The Elders have authorised the deployment of elements of the Omicron Gamma defence fleet to respond to the Outcast invasion and secure our borders. These elite fighters are more than a match for the drug-addled Outcasts and will hold the line until the Northern and Southern Fleets complete their assignments in Dresden and Dublin.

The Battleship Delos has been dispatched to the system to coordinate our counter-attack and avenge the loss of the Fes. The Elders have announced that a great honor will be bestowed upon the pilots responsible for the destruction of the Outcast Battlecruiser Augusta.

[832 AS] Gunboat Prosperity

CRETE -- 832 AS -- The rightful occupation of Freeport 9 has relieved some pressures on Crete, but stressed others. While we now control the biodomes of Omicron Theta, Food production has begun to decline. Our engineers think this is because of the high-yield synth crops depleting the soil.

The Zoners seem to have prevented this previously by importing Fertilizers from the Houses. Similarly, Crete, Leon and Cadiz are facing a shortage of Pharmaceuticals, complicating the treatment of our casualties. The Zoners now refuse to sell us these goods, so we must look elsewhere to obtain what we need.

The Elders have decreed that the raiding fleets are to redouble their efforts in Cambridge, and make new inroads into the Frankfurt system. Petra Base in Sigma 15 is to be reinforced, and the Fertilizer convoys from Planet Holstein treated as priority targets.

The Corsairs have always prized strength, and we have the strength to take what we need from the weak. Prosperity is there to be seized.

[832 AS] The gold-paved path to victory

CADIZ -- 832 AS -- The Gallic War left Bretonia a wounded beast, stumbling along in a desperate attempt to prolong the inevitable. This presents us with critical opportunities. Our reavers scourge their Trade Lanes to feeble opposition, each raid securing the plunder and materiel needed to rebuild our mighty fleets. Now, the Mollys have seized Dublin, and its immense Gold wealth along with it. The Mollys are but gnats compared to the mighty Corsairs - the Elders have decreed that the system will be ours. The Battlecruiser Santander has already struck a great victory by eliminating the Battleship Hood. The Mollys fear to meet us in open battle, but soon they will be forced to fight or starve. With the wealth of Dublin secured, no one will be able to oppose us. The path to the Corsairs' great victory in Bretonia and Rheinland is paved in Gold.

[831 AS] Freeport 9 Seized Over Zoner Treachery

FREEPORT 9 -- 831 AS -- For decades we tolerated the insolence of Freeport 9's Zoners. They wrongly assumed that the Corsairs would simply ignore the sheltering of our enemies and the disrespect of our laws, so long as their biodomes continued to provide for Crete.

The death of Juan Garcia was but the latest in a line of killings by the Bounty Hunters Guild, abetted by the Zoners who provide them with safe harbor. The Elders have decided: no more. One opportunity was offered for the Zoners to make amends for their transgressions, and instead they chose to ignore our reasonable demands. Last night, Freeport 9 was boarded and the station administration placed under arrest.

From this day forward, the biodomes will provide exclusively for the Corsairs, and the docking bays will admit only those we allow. Fortunately, our ancient enemies the Outcasts appear to be preoccupied with a self-inflicted revolt on their poisonous planet. By the time they turn their focus back to the Omicrons, we will be secure in our conquest.

[831 AS] Jump Hole Upheaval Causes Chaos

HEISENBERG -- 831 AS -- Jump holes across Sirius have become increasingly volatile and chaotic over the last year, with Professor Sophia Nagel from the Heisenberg Research Station linking the unusual phenomena to the Pulse. The Pulse was an unprecedented blast of hyperspace energy that was detected immediately prior to last year's Jump Gate Blackout.

Professor Nagel and her team are certain the Pulse originated from outside Sirius, but are otherwise no closer to identifying its source or mitigating a future Blackout event. "Following the Blackout, we began to see immediate signs of jump hole destabilization in multiple different regions, with many ultimately falling out of phase alignment altogether", she commented. The dramatic upending of Sirius' jump hole network has already prompted many groups to abandon stations and withdraw from systems that appear to risk being cut off.

While months-long trips between the stars are possible thanks to the Liberty Engine and many centuries of innovation, few ships are designed or provisioned to make such arduous journeys. Those who were displaced by Sirius' redrawn map hope that system connections will return, while adventurers and explorers rush to discover new routes.

[831 AS] Corsair Elder's Son Killed by BHG!

FREEPORT 9 -- 831 AS -- The presence of Bounty Hunters so close to the Corsair home world has long been a source of anger for the Edge World pirates. Zoner Freeports offer a safe harbor and open market to all comers - including the BHG.

For decades the Zoners of Freeport 9 have kept themselves safe from Corsair reprisals by offering useful services, with their biodomes providing Crete with respite from the famines that once ravished it. Despite this, outrage has swept Omicron Gamma after a flight of Hunters killed Commander Juan Garcia, before retreating back to the No Fire Zones of Omicron Theta.

The Council of Elders have ordered the administrator of Freeport 9 to attend Planet Crete to hear their demands. Elder Garcia has vowed that the station's halls would "run red with blood" unless the Zoners turned over all BHG aboard the Freeport. The Zoners are yet to respond, likely trying to anticipate how the Corsairs will react.

[830 AS] Tempers Flare over Pygar Colony!

PYGAR -- 830 AS -- The Bretonian occupation of Gran Canaria forced many Zoners off-world, with some braving the deadly storms of Pygar to eke out a difficult existence under the barren planet's surface. This has not met with warmth by the Corsairs, who see Pygar as a competitor for scarce resources. Elder Garcia warned that there would be "dire consequences" if Freeport 9's biodomes diverted exports from Planet Crete. Whispers of alien ruins below Pygar's surface further antagonized the Corsairs, who fiercely enforce control of the Artifact trade. Pygar's extreme conditions and the tense relationship with the Corsairs has already led many colonists to return to the now liberated Gran Canaria.

[830 AS] Corsair Empire salutes High Elder Montoya

CRETE -- 830 AS -- The Corsairs all across the Empire salute High Elder Montoya, who died among his family aged 78. The High Elder dedicated his life to the Corsair people, having won a lifetime of glory leading strikes into Bretonia, Rheinland and the Sigmas. Montoya pioneered the 'Road to Rheinland' strategy, commanding the Northern Fleet as it entered Sigma 15 in 815 AS. While that campaign would falter in Frankfurt, Montoya's steady leadership ensured that many Corsair warriors returned to Crete to continue to fight for the Empire and future victory.

In his later years, Montoya would act as a steadying hand on the Council of Elders, counseling against rash decisions and reckless action. The Council has since inducted Elder Rosita Garcia to their number. As she commemorated the launch of the Battlecruiser Santander, she declared that "Sirius shall be set alight as a pyre in Montoya's honor". The Santander and its squadrons have been dispatched to pillage Bretonia.

[828 AS] Reconquista

CRETE -- 828 AS -- Following a lull of successful conquests waged by the Corsairs, the Elders have finally broken their silence and issued an ultimatum.

"The standing Navy of the Corsair Empire as well as its irregular raiders must do everything within their means to break existing stalemates or make progress. The enemies of Crete have grown arrogant and take for granted that Corsair offensives have lost their steam, this is an assessment which must be proved woefully wrong."

In response to these express instructions, activity across every Corsair installation has intensified to levels that suggest substantial mobilization.

[825 AS] Ibusuki station massacred - Kusari enters war!

SAIGON -- 825 -- In a furious speech, Prime Minister Yukihara Reijiro of Kusari has declared a state of war against Rheinland. This follows the destruction of Ibusuki Survey Platform in Sigma-21, 12 hours before Rheinland's eviction ultimatum expired. Despite Rheinland's protests that it was not responsible for the act, Kusari has accused the Battleship Bayern of the murders, releasing the station's final distress calls that begged Rheinland forces to cease fire. As a result, Kusari has mobilized the Kusari Naval Forces to begin joint military operations alongside the Gas Miner's Guild. The Prime Minister has ordered Rheinland to withdraw all of its forces from the Sigmas immediately or face Kusari's fury.

[825 AS] War returns to the Sigmas!

SIGMA-21 -- 825 -- Rheinland has declared war on the Gas Miners Guild (GMG), with both claiming to be victims of unprovoked aggression. Rheinland announced its intent to expel the GMG from Sigma-15 and 21, which it claims as territory. The GMG in turn aims to enforce treaty terms from the end of the 80-Years War that it says establishes Guild sovereignty over the entire Sigma cluster. Kusari has offered to mediate the dispute, while Liberty and Bretonia have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities over fear of disruption to the sector’s strategic H-Fuel supplies. Rheinland has advised it will not obstruct Sigma H-Fuel shipments by vessels operating under neutral flags. Interspace has substantially raised premiums for convoys in the region.

[804 AS] Treaty of Honshu eases Colony War wounds

HONSHU -- 804 -- Dignitaries from Rheinland and Kusari today ratified the Second Treaty of Honshu, officially normalizing relations between the two Houses and ending Kusari’s embargo. Rheinland has formally accepted sole culpability for the Colony Wars and agreed to a 20 year reparations package. This includes preferential rates for Kusari corporations on military goods and resources needed to rebuild the Kusari Naval Forces, and financial compensation for the damages inflicted in Honshu itself. Chancellor Steller offered his sincere condolences to Kusari over the war, and promised a brighter future of mutual prosperity.

Rumors

Corsairs
  • I fly sorties to the Trade Lane on occasion when some of our boys need fresh cargo for the yards back home. I like this region of Sirius. No open stretches of space where you can get tagged. All you have to do here is fight off the occasional scout, or break away and slip into the endless cloud if things start to get a bit too hot.

  • Welcome to our little corner of hell. When the GMG decided to force the Junkers out, probably to try and cut off our route to Rheinland, we were forced to make other arrangements. We built this base to keep the Artifact routes open, but it's also a convenient place to launch a raid on the Trade Lanes from.

  • I just came from Crete with a cargo of Artifacts. I make this run often enough, and it can be a dull one. Sometimes I'll continue on a bit further into Rheinland, but most of the time we'll offload our Artifacts and let the Unioners, Junkers and Hogosha take it from here. Then I'll join up with a couple of our raiders and go fishing in this blue sea for cargo to take back home.

  • There are several groups with an interest in this region. The GMG lay claim to this space and run frequent patrols, mostly around the Trade Lanes and their Gas Mining platforms. The Hogosha, Unioners and Junkers come here to buy artifacts. Recently, the Outcasts have also become more numerous in the region, probably peddling their drugs to Rheinland and Kusari. The Golden Chrysantemums are sometimes seen with them. Last, there's the Blood Dragons who seem to enjoy a good brawl. No shortage of foes in this space, but that is nothing new to a Corsair.

  • We get the odd Zoners in here. They prefer to stay out of the house systems. Usually they're just picking up Light Arms and Consumer Goods for their Freeport out there in Omicron Theta. They'll trade those for Food and other basics, so we don't need to haul those ourselves as much. That lot likes living on the ragged edge, and you'll find it in the Omicron systems.

  • Lagos may not be the most elegant piece of work, but it suits our needs. From here, we have an alternate way to trade Artifacts with the Hogosha, who can take them to Kusari and beyond. We also trade with the Unioners, who can take them into and through Rheinland, without the constant Hessian harassment in Omegas. Of course, there is the GMG to deal with here instead.

  • There's a Hole from Sigma-17 into this area not far from the base. The route back to Crete goes through there, and Omicron Theta. The Gas Miners have patrols throughout the area, and Bounty Hunters also prowl about, but overall it's not that hard to reach home from here.

  • We've reached some understandings with the Unioners of late. We'll see how that goes, I'm not wholly trustful of any Rheinlander. Least of all those who are known to deal in Hessian Tears. Still, if they want to profit from the Artifact trade, let them. Another route into Liberty for those doesn't hurt us.

  • I miss the old brawls with some of the Outcasts on Yanagi. Sure, their Cardamine mutations give them greater stamina and quicker healing, but that just means you have to punch them a bit harder. More fun that way. Maybe I'll run down to Freeport 9 and see if I can find some trouble there.

  • The Crow nebula has its own dangers. Omicron space has a lot of radiation, but here, it are explosive pockets of gas that are the greatest risk. With a bit of practise, you can spot and avoid them though. If you plan on raiding here, it's smart to do so. Transports sometimes try to flee into those regions.

  • The Hogosha are our strongest ally, and they handle most, if not all, of our Kusari interests. They have considerable leeway to move Artifacts through Kusari space, which is good for us. I hear they even take them as far as Liberty. They have an understanding with Samura, so we avoid hitting Samura transports as often. Every once in a while we mock-raid one to keep up appearances. Kishiro and GMG ships are prey, like the rest.

Junkers
  • Getting kicked out of the Yanagi Depot was harsh, but expected I suppose. Corsair and Outcast smugglers aren't always subtle, especially when they meet up. The GMG had enough suspicions for them to finally move to evict us. Still, we got wind of it well ahead of time, so we warned our two biggest "clients" to make arrangements in advance. You're sitting in one such arrangement now.

  • The loss of the Yanagi Depot means we'll have a tougher time making headway in Kusari. The Hogosha resist us at every turn. It hasn't hurt our smuggling operations that much though. This place is in a more convenient spot then Yanagi was, especially now the Berlin Hole is gone. From here into Munchen or Frankfurt is ideal for getting stuff in and out of Rheinland quickly and quietly.

  • The Corsairs are a vicious bunch, that much I can tell you. Crossing them tends to leave you floating, but I don't need to worry about that. They won't touch people running Artifacts for them - that's one of the ways they make money. Of course, you'll have to watch for the Outcasts and Hessians when you've got Artifacts in your hold. The law will confiscate them and fine you, but Corsair enemies will simply space you.

Hogosha
  • I am planning to return to Honshu with a load of Artifacts. From there, they will go to the Golden Dragon, in Shikoku, to entertain our guests. A portion will also be shipped into the Independent Worlds. We have some contacts that handle the distribution of these Artifacts in Liberty. But the most appealing ones will stay in Kusari. It is one of the many advantages in buying these Artifacts straight from those who gather them.

  • The Hogosha respect the Corsairs for what they are - a fierce people who are true to their own way. They may appear brutal and vicious to the casual observer, but beneath that there is a deep sense of honor. Corsairs do not seek to corrupt or usurp nations the way Liberty and the Outcasts do, be it by drugs or credits. I'm not entirely sure what motivates them. Perhaps it is a sense of vengeance that became their culture over time.

  • This is not the safest system for a Hogosha pilot. The Corsairs are our allies, yes, but just about everyone else is not. The GMG will shoot us on sight, as will the Outcasts, Blood Dragons and Golden Chrysantemums. Luckily, these nebulas are dense enough that we can usually slip through undetected.
