Timeline

From Discovery Wiki

This timeline sets out a top level summary of important events that have happened in the Sirius sector since humanity's arrival.

  • Dating in most of Sirius uses "AS" / After Settlement, with the starting point being the arrival of the Sleeper Ship Liberty in New York.
  • Gallia arrived later than the other Sleeper Ships, and uses its own independent dating system "AGS", or "After Gallic Settlement".

This timeline specifically provides information on the continuity used by the Discovery mod.

This varies in some significant ways from the continuity of vanilla Freelancer, for example where explicit dates have been added to events that otherwise were not specified, or dates have been changed to address continuity issues accidentally introduced by the game's original developers.

This timeline contains spoilers for the original game's campaign and much of Discovery's story, so please consider playing through / exploring first.

  • Zoner settlers fleeing the Bretonian occupation of Planet Gran Canaria in Omega-49 begin colonizing the cave systems of Planet Pygar in Omicron Theta.
  • The Alsace Passage opens between Zurich and Cologne, an ambitious project to open a trade artery between Gallia and Rheinland.
  • Elections in Rheinland break the influence of traditional Reichstag parties. Smaller, radical parties are driven into power by discontent over economic decline and failures in the Hudson and Saigon Wars. These are broadly divided into a progressive and imperial blocs.
    • Rheinland Military officers and corporate elites begin to collude with Frederick von Albrecht, a socialite and the last remaining heir to the defunct Rheinland throne. They plan to seize power, topple the Republic, and install him as a figurehead Emperor.
    • The narrow progressive majority in the Reichstag push legislation to legalize the Bundschuh. Imperialist agitators instigate riots in Hamburg and Stuttgart in response, which escalate following violent RFP crackdowns.
    • After months of spiralling unrest, the Rheinland Military arrest planetary officials on Planet Hamburg, and attempt to initiate a coup on Planet New Berlin. The government evades capture due to the MND's intervention, and is evacuated to Thuringia aboard the newly launched Carrier Saar.
    • The Rheinland Civil War begins, with heavy fighting between Federalist and Imperialist factions in New Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich, and Stuttgart.
    • The Battleship Karlsruhe is attacked by its own battlegroup, and forced to retreat from Stuttgart into Cologne to escape advancing Imperialist forces.
  • Bretonia rescinds all outstanding Letters of Marque, issuing arrest warrants for any Privateers who continue to launch attacks against Tau shipping.
  • Liberty issues an evacuation order for Alberta, as the encroaching dark matter will soon consume the entire system. Some Zoners refuse and remain aboard Freeport 14. Most leave, and begin efforts to reconstruct Freeport 14 in Inverness.
  • The Liberty Navy invades Bering with the Battleship Concord to root out Liberty Separatists based there.
    • The Hellfire Legion offers aid to the outnumbered and outgunned Separatists. Liberty Commonwealth civilian leaders order Hellfire forces to stand down and withdraw to Vespucci, to avoid losses.
    • Local commanders mutiny, and commit to the fight regardless. The Battleship Concord succeeds in destroying Marshall Station and the pirate den of Freeport 2. The joint defence buys time for a successful Separatist evacuation.
    • Enraged by perceived civilian mismanagement of their military efforts, Hellfire Legion and Separatist fleets merge to become the Liberty Insurgency, and depose the Commonwealth government of Planet Veracruz.
  • The Red Hessians exploit the ongoing Rheinland Civil War to overrun the BHG and RFP garrison of Cologne, occupying the system. The newly opened Alsace Passage is severed.
    • The Battleship Karlsruhe is displaced from Cologne and retreats further into Zurich. To avoid being drawn into the civil war, the Gallic Confederacy proposes the fleet's internment.
  • Construction of Portsmouth Shipyard in Cambridge, a replacement for Southampton Shipyard. Bretonia enters into negotiations to sell the now unnecessary Aland Shipyard to The Core.
  • The Federalist army on Planet Stuttgart is either evacuated or surrenders, over fears continued fighting will spark wildfires that could cause widespread famines.
  • The Order believes The Wild in Drake are preparing to reactivate the charging Alien Gate and establish a direct connection to the Omicrons. A combined strike between the Battleship Atum and the Crayter Republic successfully destroys much of the Wild presence.
    • The Wild overload the Alien Gate as a desperate escape attempt and trigger another runaway cataclysm event in Drake's star.
    • The gate and some surviving forces - including Faust Outpost and the Battleship Embrun - are dragged through to Alberta.
  • After consolidating its power in Vespucci, the Liberty Insurgency launches an attack on Willard Research Station in California, shattering the base.
    • Liberty declares the "Insurgency Campaign", a concerted effort to breach the Insurgency's home systems with a full expeditionary fleet.
  • The Carrier Praia stages a rescue operation to collect Zoner survivalists in Alberta, after their preparations are revealed to be insufficient in the face of the dark matter storm. A handful stubbornly remain behind.
  • The Federalist summer offensive in Rheinland secures Munich, and pushes into Frankfurt.
    • The Battleship Karlsruhe receives resupply from the Gallic Confederacy, on the agreement that it will attack Cologne and remove the Red Hessians obstructing the Alsace Passage trade route. It instead bypasses the Hessian garrison, and launches a diversionary assault on Stuttgart.
    • The Battleship Karlsruhe is destroyed, and the Frankfurt offensive is driven back.
    • Imperial fleets counter-attack and secure Planet Holstein's orbit, beginning the grinding, attritional push towards Schatten Research Facility.
  • The Kusari Naval Forces initiate a build-up of forces in Kyushu. The Kusari government demands the Crayter Republic immediately vacate the Holman Junction and withdraw from Tau-31, calling Crayter traffic checkpoints an unlawful restriction on Kusari's economic interests.
    • Negotiations quickly fail, with Crayter accusing Kusari of intentionally sabotaging talks. The Kusari Naval Forces launch an invasion of Tau-31, rapidly expelling Crayter from the area despite condemnation from Bretonia and Liberty.
    • Now controlling the Tau crossroads, Kusari swings north into Tau-23 in a lightning assault, overrunning the light surprised Gallic Minarchy garrison defending the Jump Gate to Languedoc.
    • A second Kusari invasion force advances from Hokkaido into Tau-53 (Rishiri) and engages Grand Duchy units defending the Jump Gate to Lorraine.
  • The Crayter Republic transfers administration of Planet Harris back to Bretonia, to protect its holdings there from Kusari attack.
  • The Outcasts exploit the Crayter Republic vulnerability to launch Op ORANGE HAMMER, a coordinated series of attacks on their vessels across Tau-23, 29, 31 and 44.
  • The Bretonia Armed Forces begin to stage forces in Dublin, Leeds and around Planet Harris.
  • Kusari Invasion of Gallia begins.
    • Kusari announces their intention to destroy Gallia's access to Warwolf weapons of mass destruction, and prosecute war criminals responsible for the genocide of Leeds.
    • It is commonly believed that the attack is intended to secure Kusari's exclusive access to Tau resources, and cripple Gallia before it can reconstitute a fleet that could present a future threat.
  • Colonization of Planet Carlisle in Newcastle begins, after the bacterial "Clean Zone" is certified as mostly safe. Early colonists primarily consist of displaced Leeds refugees.
  • Bretonia abandons its position on Planet Gran Canaria and begins to evacuate Marines and settlers from Omega-49.
  • Liberty and Kusari jointly announce the decommissioning of the Jump Gates in Kepler, after movements of the Kuryo Anomaly swamp the system with Dark Matter. The Zoners of Ames Research Station remain behind, deploying experimental shielding that had originally been developed for Freeport 14.
  • Aland Shipyard is destroyed by the Mollys, resulting in the worst loss of life inflicted by the movement since the loss of the Battleship Hood.
  • Kusari's offensives in Gallia surge forward, inflicting repeated defeats on Gallic defenders.
  • Bretonia launches "E-Day", the invasion of Edinburgh from Dublin, Leeds, and Tau-31 to root out the Gallic Enclave.
    • The attack into prepared defences suffers heavy casualties, including the destruction of the Battleships Bradford, Grimsby and Rutland.
    • The Gallic Enclave's depleted Edinburgh garrison is facing inevitable defeat - Gallic citizens and officers sheltering on Planet Gaia are evacuated north, towards Gallia.
    • Bordeaux Orbital Terminal holds Planet Gaia's colonies and Bretonian slaves hostage, threatening to destroy them from orbit if Bretonia advances further.
    • The Gaians smuggle a captured bioweapon aboard Fort Monarch, derived from Planet Carlisle's deadly bacteria. The station is incapacitated and remains under quarantine on a precautionary basis.
    • The Gaians threaten to deploy additional samples of the Carlisle weapon on Planet Gaia's colonies, if the Bretonian government attempts to occupy the settlements rather than evacuating its citizens.
    • Bretonia is forced to commit to an evacuation plan, which will see rescued Bretonian captives distributed across Planet New London, Carlisle and Sprague.
